Cheeese and a Wino.

I had a pretty light dinner today and decided to finish it off with a late-night snack. Tonight’s snack was Brie cheese and a glass of Chianti.

Wheel of Brie:

Along with the Brie, I also grabbed a wheel of Camembert cheese, which is similar to Brie in that it’s also soft-ripened, but it’s creamier.

Outside of Europe, these types of cheese are pasteurized  so the way they are served and enjoyed is different from how they are meant to be savored.

Still, have a slice (or wheel ;p) with a glass or two of red wine or a dry white and some crackers or bread.

Finger Food

I got the munchies.
I’m a little lazy.

Want something w/ little clean-up, light, and easy-to-eat?

One simple slice of 100% Wheat (cut 1/4).
Spring mix w/ fresh baby lettuces & greens.
99% Fat Free Oven Roasted Breast o’ Chicken (2).
Terra Sweet Potato Chips.
Cedar’s Tomato Basil Hummus w/ Water Crackers.
and a wedge of Baked Brie cheese.

The baked brie cheese in pastry is really good. You have the soft texture and unique taste of brie, and it already has the bread around it. It went great with this light meal, but could also be awesome (good adjectives, huh) by itself and a glass of red wine.

Chicago’s Own, Argo Tea Cafe

Down the street and around the corner from any college student there should always be a coffee place. Between class, I like to nook up here at Argo Tea conveniently located in Downtown Chi-town off of Randolph and State St next to Borders. It’s a good place to study, grab a light meal/snack, hook up to free wi-fi, and grab a warm boost via coffee/tea.

Argo works with several small wholesale marts as welll as Whole Foods Market in distributing. Some of their bakery products come from Sweet Thang Bakery, like this Tomato Basil Mozzarella knish/quiche:

There’s not much to say except that a nice, warm Tomato Basil is my fave knish here at Argo. They have a variety of pastries, sandwiches, and such, but it’s hard to turn this one down. Knishes are usually made with some sort of filling like so. This one was mainly eggs and mozzarella, a few slices of onion, half slices of tomatos, and full basil leaves (below).

Check out that basil!
Yep. I tore into it. SO… Good.
Baked just right.
The Bubble Tea in the back was pretty good. I ordered a medium, taking account for the ice, and for that extra boost of caffeine. Made with Black Tea (plenty of caffeine), little square pearls (with surprising good texture), and skim milk; iced.

Late Lunch Today

I woke up late today and had my beloved Red Bull for breakfast o_O.  Then to top it off, I was too busy running around to eat lunch so my first meal was at 3 and I was hungry… like a mug.

Above is a cold sandwich (simplicity of not having to turn on the stove for a quick meal).  I used a portion of a seeded semolina filone loaf (a large, flat baguette coated with sesame seed), pepperjack cheese, roasted salami and turkey, baby spinach, fresh mushroom, mustard, and raspberry spread.

The hummus is Athenos’ Greek style with olive oil, lemon, and oregano.  Go to J. Quinn for some awesome homemade hummus, though.  No lie.  The chips, Kettle’s organic Dipping Chips.  They use sunflower oil so it’s crispy and not greasy with just the right amount of salt.

The filone is filling in itself; I ate only half of the sandwich and some hummus before getting satisfyingly full.

Milk and Cereal; Cereal and Milk.

 cereal

With very little time before school, I hate going to class hungry and disturbing the peace with stomach blubs.  For a quick and easy breakfast snack, I like a healthy bowl o’ cereal*.  This is 1/2 serving of Shredded Wheat and 1/2 serving of Grape-Nuts. A little something, something to break my fast.  Allows me to spoil myself a little for lunch or snack in between.

Shredded Wheat: whole wheat cereal; whole (normal) size, can be broken up by hands, or simply by adding milk. The spoon takes care of the rest.
Grape-Nuts: whole wheat and barley; name derived when cereal was originally made with grape sugar; healthy cereal, “fills you up, not out.”

*with Skim milk.
