Cho Sun OK Korean Restaurant

Cho Sun OK Korean Restaurant
4200 N. Lincoln Ave
Chicago, IL 60618

Located on the corner of Lincoln and Berteau.

Mandoo- Comes with special Korean soy sauce mixture. Mandoo are pan fried pork dumplings with a savory vegetable mixture while the special Korean sauce has some of the same great vegetables and also vinegar and sesame seeds to give it that authentic Korean zest.

Mul Naegn Myeon- Buckweat Noodles in Cold Beef Broth. Usually also has shredded cucumbers and a hard-boiled egg.

Kimchi Chigae-  One of Samantha’s timeless favorites.  Best when served in the harsh cold of Korean winter, but Chicago summers are fine too.  This has kimchi, beef, tofu, green onion, and a lot of spices in the broth.  It is served boiling in its cauldron to maintain the perfect mixture upon arrival.

Side dishes typical of Korean cuisine.

Overall, this place is a favorite of ours.  The restaurant itself is nicely set-up, small, but welcoming.  The waitresses could be your Aunties (if you were Korean).  There’s no friendly small talk, but the service is quick and simple.

Cho Sun Ok is BYOB.

Prices per entre vary between $6.95- $13.95.

Major credit cards accepted.

Supermarket Luncheon

1049 Gessner Drive, 77055

My coworkers went out to eat one day last week, I didn’t go, but I forced them to take my camera… teehee. Credits to AW for taking the pictures.

This is a Korean supermarket in Koreantown and inside it has a few food booths. You can order and eat right then and there.

So here are the dishes as described to me;

This is some kind of fish paste thingy in soup… um, yeah… I didn’t eat it so I don’t know.

Chicken katsu, like chicken cutlet on rice with onion and cracked eggs that cook with the heat from the cutlet.  This I think is more of a Japanese dish than Korean.

Beef bulgogi with kimchi and pickled radish on the side, all for 5 something I think. Not a bad deal at all.

Pictures are good… too bad I couldn’t enjoy the food, next time then. My coworker recommends this market, I’ll go one of these days.

PS – Houston is no longer the fattest city, Chicago is! Heh, spandex, you best be having fun.

Asiana Garden

Hmmm… this is by far not even remotely recent… but since all my authors are taking it chill, I had to update on something.

Went to eat here with my family, and let me see what else I can remember… Korean food is not cheap. At least I think I am not Korean enough to know where the good deals are… Anyhow, the service here is not good either. Many a times we wanted refills on drinks or refills on the small dishes and the waitress did not bring it forth, that might actually have something to do with how she did not even speak a lick of English. I can withstand bad service as long as the food is good.

We had lots of bulgogi, dur. And the ribs, very tasty. But then again, I wouldn’t really be able to distinguish the excellent from the good… unless I had a side by side taste test. It tasted like all the other Korean restaurant bbq, but it wasn’t bad either. I should of ordered some tofu jiggae, just cause I absolutely adore that stuff. I think we had bimbibap too… like I said at the beginning of the post, it was a long time ago. So here are pictures:

Sorry for the lack of pictures, next time I will really try hard to document. On a side note, thats my mom’s hand doing all the cooking. I am perfectly able to cook for myself and I love to cook, but when she does it, its extra special :) awww… One day I will turn out just like her (yeah right).

Bottom line – I don’t recommend this establishment on the basis that you can find better service and cheaper deals down the street. Travel down Long Point above I10, thats Korea town.
