So, who can wake up early enough to have time for a real breakfast? Not me, sweetheart. A little later in the day, we settled for brunch here at Chicago’s Orange Restaurant, Downtown Chicago.

The restaurant really lives up to its name by offering citrus-coffee, various concoct-it-yourself fruit blends, and fruit-themed entrees.

Orange’s signature appetizers are the ever-changing, sushi-themed pieces called Frushi (made of different fruits and sweet sticky rice). The fruits vary daily; we had kiwi with mango and cantaloupe.

Thai omelet. Orange offers a variety of themed breakfast items from this omelet to Chai French Toast to Chocolate Blueberry Waffles.

I had the Eggs Benedict with mozzarella, thick tomatoes, and avocado sauce with a side of mashed potatoes. It was plenty good with the poached eggs and hollandaise sauce (which I do not recommend tasting by itself).

On another visit, a friend ordered this huge breakfast burrito, which was more than she can handle. It tasted even better with a side of extra avocado and a somewhat spicy cream sauce.

I had their Green Eggs and Ham (scrambled eggs with basil pesto, mozzarella, roasted tomatoes, and diced pancetta). It was really tasty, not too filling, and it came with a side of their delicious mashed potatoes.
The prices are reasonable and service can be slow (if you go during rush-hr), but the young, energetic staff was still very friendly.

I would love to go to this place, looks like they try to put a twist on simple dishes. Was it expensive?

Expensive? Nope. Reasonable. Average entrees range from about $6 to $12.
Girl, the restaurant is pretty good. I really like the atmosphere when it’s not too busy.

I just remembered that I’ve made hollandaise sauce before and also tasted it alone for kicks… and when I say for kicks, dang it packed a kick!
